Introduction

In this tutorial I go through the pharmacy practice June 2017 past paper from the Hong Kong Pharmacy Registration Exam. Please note I do not have any affiliations with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board nor did I write the original questions.

I provide background information for continuing education/study purposes but will mark out the actual answer separately.

For some questions it may be possible for there to be a more than one answer which will be acceptable to the examiner.

With the calculations there may be more than one method at arriving at the answer, I try to provide the most straightforward one. I tend to round up to three decimal places or three significant figures. Memorizing basic equations is a requirement for the exam, and I will point them out in the answers provided. You will get marks for showing your calculations and reasonings provided they are reasonable.

I have provided references used.

I tend to prefer British nomenclature and brand names.

Do bear in mind I have had unlimited time and access to literature resources to help me answer the questions. The exam questions on this paper and on others are difficult, and under exam settings it is unlikely anyone would have been able to answer all the questions in their entirety.

If you would like to comment or challenge any of the answers I have provided please contact me via Facebook on the Hong Kong Registration Exam group.

I would also like to thank the assistance of Joe Blais on clarifying what 1/2 NS + D5W means, PCSK9 inhibitors, and general proofreading, and Dr Lydia Tang for reviewing question 4 (HCV).
